Terms of use

Short, because the site is free, needs no account, and never receives your files. These are the rules anyway.

Using the site

By using mp3towave.org you accept these terms. If you do not, please do not use the site. There is no account to close and nothing to uninstall.

What you get

The converters and guides are free to use, for personal and commercial work alike. There is no licence fee, no attribution requirement for files you convert, and no limit on how often you use the tools. Audio you convert remains entirely yours: we never receive it and claim no rights over it.

Your responsibility for the files

You are responsible for having the right to convert whatever you convert. That includes copyright, licensing, and any confidentiality obligations attached to the recording. Because conversion happens in your browser and no file reaches us, we have no ability to check or police this, and no wish to.

Do not use the site to remove or circumvent technical protection measures on copyrighted work. The converter cannot open DRM protected files in any case, and we will not help with that.

No warranty

The tools are provided as they are, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. That includes any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

The converter has been tested, and the testing is described openly on the reviews page and the about page. Testing is not a guarantee. Browsers vary, memory runs out, files are sometimes damaged in ways nothing can handle, and bugs exist in all software.

Keep your originals. Do not delete a source file until you have checked the converted one, and never treat any converter, this one included, as a backup.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from using this site, including lost audio, lost work, lost time, lost profit, or data loss of any kind. Since the site is free and processes nothing on our servers, any liability that cannot be excluded is limited to the amount you paid to use it, which is nothing.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability for fraud or for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.

Availability

The site may be unavailable at times, and features may change or be removed. There is no uptime commitment. If a tool you rely on matters to your work, ffmpeg is free, open source, and runs on your own machine. The guides here include the commands.

Acceptable use

Please do not attempt to disrupt the site or the people using it. Specifically: no attacking or overloading the hosting, no attempting to break the security of the site or its visitors, no scraping in a way that degrades service for others, and no republishing the guides as your own work.

Because conversion is local, hammering the converter costs us nothing and only slows your own computer, so there is little to gain from trying.

Content and copyright

The guides, the site design, and the converter code are our copyright, apart from the third party components listed below. You may quote and link to the guides with attribution. Republishing whole pages is not permitted.

The MP3 encoder is LAME, used through the lamejs JavaScript port, and is licensed under the LGPL. It is served unmodified as a separate file at /vendor/lamejs.min.js, with its licence at /vendor/LAME-LICENSE.txt. Nothing in these terms restricts your rights under that licence.

Product names mentioned in the guides, including Audacity, VLC, ffmpeg, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Serato, Traktor, and Rekordbox, belong to their owners. Mentioning them is not a claim of affiliation or endorsement in either direction.

Where the guides link elsewhere, those sites are not under our control and we are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

Governing terms

These terms may be updated, with the date at the top changed to match and material changes noted on the changelog. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

Contact

Questions about these terms go to hello@mp3towave.org, as do copyright concerns and correction requests.
